Chinese Antique Erotic Teapot
This rare and wonderful teapot is made using Zisha clay from Yixing in Jiangsu Province, China. This special "purple sand" clay has been used since the Song Dynasty (960-1279) - it is considered the best clay for teapots. This unusual erotica teapot features two scenes of a man and a woman copulating in fanciful ways. It was probably originally given as a wedding gift. The base glaze is dark red with additional flower designs. The inside is unglazed, as is expected with Yixing teapots. No cracks or chips. The bottom shows the maker's and artist's seals.
