Chinese Porcelain "Qianlong" Bulb Dish
SOLD Rectangular porcelain bulb dish painted with traditional Chinese landscape imagery showing on each side tranquil country lake scenes. Ends are inscribed with poems. This interesting 20th century piece carries on the bottom the "Qianlong yu zhi" mark. That mark translates as "Made for Qianlong Emperor", which would indicate creation between 1736 and 1796. The Qianlong period is revered as the artistic highpoint of Chinese dynastic culture. However, this bulb dish is not a "fake". Rather, it implies a stylistic connection with pieces made during the Qianlong period. In a sense, it pays homage to the quality and style of that period and implies that this porcelain bulb dish is made with the same quality and style as one from the Qianlong period. This footed bulb dish (or bulb pot) with no drain was designed as a dish for forcing bulbs. It can also be used as a bonsai pot. No cracks or chips. Silk Road Collection is proud to offer this Oriental treasure from the estate of Vaughn L. Banting, the noted collector, author, and bonsai expert.
