Porcelain "Qianlong" Chinese Bulb Dish
Porcelain bulb dish with traditional Chinese imagery of birds and flowers. This 20th century piece has on its bottom the "Qianlong Nian Zhi" mark, which translates as "Qianlong Period Made", indicating creation between 1736 and 1796, during the rule of the Qianlong Emperor. The Qianlong period is considered the artistic highpoint of Chinese culture. However, this bulb dish is not a "fake". Rather, it acknowledges a stylistic connection with pieces made during the Qianlong period. In a sense, it pays homage to the quality and style of that period and implies that this porcelain bulb dish is made with the same quality and style as bulb dishes from the Qianlong period. This footed bulb dish (or bulb pot) with no drain was designed as a dish for forcing bulbs. It can also be used as a bonsai pot. No cracks or chips. Silk Road Collection is proud to offer this Oriental treasure from the estate of Vaughn L. Banting, the noted collector, author, and bonsai expert.
