Chinese Antique Huanghuali Scholar's Brush Pot
Huanghuali wood is now considered extinct and when combining this with the age of this brush pot makes it a very rare and treasured discovery. Tapering slightly outward to a wide mouth with a flat edge, this Huanghuali wood scholar's brush pot features multiple and irregular Huanghuali eye whorls throughout the grain. Minor restorative work has been done on the base. Pieces like these were common desk accessories of the Chinese scholar and as the name suggest, was used to place writing and painting brushes in.
