Excellent condition, exquisite Qing Dynasty antique Chinese silk bedspread or tapestry. Quality artistry and beautifully designed, demonstrating a palate of natural dyes and an intricate variety of stitches. This wedding gift features a large medallion with numerous natural colored song birds and butterflies embroidered. At the center is a peacock displaying his tail plumage of silver blue and gold-in a courting ritual fashion. Repeated at each corner are embroidered birds and butterflies images. Throughout the ecru colored tapestry are appliquéd gold thread floral scenes and colorfully embroidered cranes. The backing is lined with silk. Eight inch gold fringes extend from all sides. At the lower left-hand corner are three Chinese characters of silk thread, suggesting a signature. The fine quality tapestry was recently appraised. There are a few soiled and discolored spots with a few threads pulling loose.
