Antique Chinese Demilune Table or Half Round Kang Table
Sold. Please see our available items in the red navigation to the left.
This style of this Chinese kang table is referred to in many different manners: as a half-round, half-moon, and demilune (lunar). Its style, age and size make it a very rare piece. It has been cleaned but not restored. It is crafted using mortise and tenon construction. The carved concave apron with its horse’s belly form has an ornament in the cusp of each section, although the apron on the left has been damaged. The waist has open horizontal carvings. Notice the flared wing designs (ruyi) on the center legs, below the apron. This design dates back to the Yuan Dynasty, 1271–1368. The graceful cabriole legs terminate at the foot with a leaf like form curled tightly upward around a ball. The feet are attached to a stretcher. Traces of the original dark lacquer remain. Could have been used as a flower or a display stand.
