Antique Ming Display Cabinet
A stunning example of a Chinese display cabinet. Traditionally used to display works of art or objects special to its owner. Today, it can continued to be used to display beautiful objects. It can also be used as a bookcase, used to place a TV in, used in the kitchen by placing a microwave oven in the upper section and in the bathroom-placing towels in the upper section. This cabinet dates to the 16th century and its style is indicative of the Shanxi, China region. The lacquer is a dark brown and has aged beautifully. The upper open section is adorned with pierced carving of floral designs, including two phoenix birds on each side. The sides of the upper section are framed with curved carvings. The two doors meet at a removable center stile and open to reveal a large storage area. The top section has a shelf and the bottom section is fully open. There are also two drawers. The bottom apron is an elaborate fretwork of floral designs. The center medallion, hinges and the pulls are made of brass.
