Antique Asian Grain Measuring Bucket
This bucket was traditionally used as a measuring bucket, positioned on a frame which allowed it to be filled and then tipped. Beautiful red lacquer and iron work. Today, use it as a small table (with a glass top), to place a dried flower arrangement, as vintage art, or use it for measuring in your kitchen.
The Chinese designed an elaborate array of wooden and woven baskets, boxes, and buckets to carry and store things. Some were styled around specific uses--picnics, carrying fish, rice, or water. Some were used for special occasions like carrying 'sweets' to a wedding party or a Chinese New Year celebration.
Today, many seem whimsical but always make a great accessory. Use them to hold your keys and mail, magazines, and hand-towels.
