Red and Black Lacquer Traveling Buddha House w/Gilt Carved Panels
The Buddha House is carried throughout the villages for special events like New Year and Moon Festivals. The Buddha is carried at eye level by four attendants, two on each side supporting the bamboo poles. Villagers can donate monies in exchange for protection of their homes and village. The detailed carving of a serpent dragon extends around three sides of the frame, accenting with red gold. A smaller dragon sitting on the mystic clouds beatifies the front panel. All of the ironwork on this piece is hand cut and blends in with the traces of old lacquer and paint. Constructed of rattan, the roof is topped with a lotus bud. When a local temple was rebuilt, this piece was replaced for a more modern home to permanently house the village Buddha. All original carving. Original gilt accents. Top is removable.
