Reclaim your attic! Design it to become a bedroom, an office or a playroom. It’s easy to do--it already has all the structural components of a room.
Don’t fight the quirkiness of your attic space, use it! and build on its character.
Because of the smallish and cramped space, create a light décor by:
Using calm, neutral colors.
Painting the walls, ceilings and floors the same or a very similar color.
If you want wallpaper, then choose small, vertical stripes.
Using natural light from dormers or skylights.
Leaving windows uncovered or using very little window treatment.
Installing lots of artificial light. Shining light on the many attic angles can be dramatic and interesting.
Decorating with low, smallish, horizontally shaped furniture—no tall armoires here.
And consider mirrors to increase light and depth.
