This carved green jade Buddhist pagoda is made of authentic jade, probably Nephrite or possibly Jadeite. It was carved in approximately 1960 and purchased in China by one of the earliest collectors to have access to China during the Mao Era.
This traditional Chinese style Buddhist five-level pagoda has eight bells at each level, hanging from the corners of the octagonal roofs. (Three bells are missing from the total structure - one on the top level and two on the second to the top level.)
The overall pagoda is in very good condition, with some minor chipping and weathering as would be expected with a piece of this age.
The wooden base is fitted for this pagoda. It is 6 inches (15.25cm) in diameter. The base's 1.75 inch (4.5cm) height contributes to the Pagoda's total height of 25.25 inches (64.25cm).
True Jade is only composed of Nephrite or Jadeite. Less valuable green hardstone carvings are often made from Serpentine or Bowenite. An appraiser's statement is available for the Jade content of this carved jade Pagoda.
