Chinese kitchen cabinets featured open carved or lattice doors and sides so that fresh fruit and vegetables could breath but still be protected.
This antique Chinese kitchen cabinet features eight doors and three drawers. The two upper and lower doors open opposite from each other, while the sides door open inward. The lattice work of the upper doors runs vertical with cross bars, which match the side lattice panels. The side panels can also be removed. The lower doors have a long-life pattern. All the doors are attached to the cabinet via wooden pin hinges. Brass pulls are on the doors and drawers. Inside the upper shelves are solid, but below the shelves are also lattice work.
The original black lacquer is most evident on the lattice work and the door edges. The rest of the cabinet has a lovely medium brown patina.
Today, this cabinet would still work well in a kitchen to store food items-fresh and packaged. It would also work well to store dishes, glasses, flatware, napkins, etc.
