Pair of Chinese Official's Chairs with Carvings

Lovely example of an antique Chinese official's chair -- demonstrating curved extended top railing, bowed back rest and curved arm rests. Nice carving of horse and Buddhist symbols on back support. In China, the horse represents practicality, love, endurance, devotion and stability. As such, this would have been designed as a symbol of the marital fidelity of the couple who owned this pair of chairs. The front stretchers below the seat are carved with flowers. The foot rest and side leg extenders are simple. Medium brown finish.
